Household fabric cleaning machine: Cleaning Guide for different fabric materials

2025-07-22

The materials of fabric furniture are diverse, and the cleaning requirements for cotton, linen, velvet, leather and flannel are quite different. Although household fabric cleaning machines are powerful, using them incorrectly may damage the fabric. Only by understanding the material properties can one both clean and protect the items.

Cotton and linen fabric: This type of material is wear-resistant and highly absorbent, making it suitable for standard cleaning modes. Before cleaning, use a Vacuum Cleaner to suck away the floating dust. Then, adjust the cleaning solution to a medium concentration (the ratio of water to detergent is 10:1). After spraying, let the solution stay for 30 seconds to soften the stains. Finally, gently scrub with a brush. Be careful not to use water that is too hot, otherwise it may cause the cotton and linen fabric to shrink.

Velvet and suede: These fabrics are delicate and prone to pilling or leaving water marks. The "Gentle Mode" needs to be selected to reduce the amount of water sprayed. The cleaning liquid should be a neutral formula (with a PH value of around 7) to avoid corroding the fabric. When scrubbing, the brush should move along the direction of the bristles and must not rub back and forth. After cleaning, do not expose to direct sunlight. Place it in a well-ventilated area to air dry. Once dry, gently comb through the fuzz with a soft-bristled brush to restore its fluffiness.

Leather fabric (genuine leather, PU leather) : Cannot be directly sprayed and washed! The nozzle of the cleaning machine needs to be removed. Wipe the surface with a soft cloth dampened with diluted cleaning solution (in a ratio of 20:1), then absorb the moisture with a dry cloth. Finally, apply a light layer of leather care oil. If there are seams in the leather, you can use the narrow seam suction head of the cleaning machine to clean the dust in the crevices to prevent liquid from seeping into the seams and causing the leather to harden.

Velvet furniture: The key point is "preventing tangling". The amount of water sprayed should be small, and the suction power should be set to the maximum to avoid excessive water causing the lint to stick together. After cleaning, immediately dry it with a cold air hair dryer at a distance of 30 centimeters. At the same time, comb through the lint with a comb to prevent clumping.

No matter what material it is, before cleaning, a test should be conducted on an inconspicuous part of the furniture (such as the inner side of the sofa backrest) to confirm that there is no fading or deformation. Only then should a thorough cleaning be carried out to ensure that the cleaning is both thorough and safe.
